Our History

SchoolYoga Institute was originally formed by yogi and educator Vedantin Ping Luo to bring yoga into the California school system. Since then, SYI has expanded its vision to include international Yoga Teacher Training Courses (TTCs).

Time Line

In 2002, Vedantin began facilitating TTCs out of his home in Turlock, CA. In 2005, Vedantin met fellow yogi Bryan Russell during a Sivananda TTC in Val Morin, Quebec. Bryan and Vedantin began leading yoga backpacking retreats together in Northern California.

In 2007, Vedantin and Bryan hosted their first month-long intensive in Vedantin’s native China. Today, SYI hosts approximately 10 TTCs a year in a variety of locations including intensives in Argentina, Bolivia, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Peru and year-long weekend TTCs in Bryan’s native New Hampshire.
