Whether you have traveled globally in the past or not, there’s a lot of preparation that goes into feeling ready for your Yoga Teacher Training Abroad!
From setting personal intentions to strengthening your body and immune system, we’ve put together a list of ways you can mentally and physically prepare for YTT!
If like us, you have the call of the inner adventurer then a sunrise climb of Mount Batur should definitely be considered one of your top things to do in Bali. The sunrise climb means a very early wake up call, usually around 4am (depending on where you’re departing from). Mt Batur is located at the center of Bali, and is one of Bali’s famous hikes. It takes about 1.5 hours by car from Ubud, and about 2-2.5 hours from Seminyak to reach the base of Mt Batur. Batur is around 1,700 meters above sea level and from the summit you’ll greet the day as the sun rises over the volcano crater and reflects off the lake at the Mounts base.
There are many tour companies that will organize the entire trek & transportation for you. The climb is relatively short taking between 1.5 - 2hrs, and is one of the more manageable on the island, however, the elevation of 700m is steep and on loose ground so be sure to wear comfortable footwear.
If you don’t already, we recommend adding vitamins and probiotics to your daily routine! Probiotics can be added to your routine at least a few weeks before you plan on traveling to assist the body with helpful bacteria in the gut. Probiotics help with immune function and ease digestive issues that can come up while traveling.
Supplements like vitamin C and vitamin D can also help boost your immune system! Please always consult with your doctor before taking any supplements.
When traveling for a Yoga Teacher Training Abroad, it is always recommended to protect your stomach from untreated or contaminated tap water. If you have never traveled abroad before, this may make you more susceptible to getting sick because your body will be exposed to unfamiliar bacteria. One of the most common causes of sickness for travelers is being exposed to contaminated water, causing diarrhea and stomach illnesses.
Even though all of our retreat centers have filtered water, we recommend bringing a water filter or water purification tablets. Here are the products we recommend:
Sport Berkey Water Bottle
SterPen Ultra Water Purifier
Water Purification Tabs
Global Entry is a program from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection service that allows pre-approved travelers to receive expedited clearance upon arrival into the United States via the SENTRI and NEXUS lanes and through automatic kiosks at select airports. This is the perfect option if you don’t like waiting in long airport lineups!
To be prepared for your Yoga Teacher Training Abroad it’s important to do research and understand each country’s entry requirements. Some countries require a visa on arrival, meaning that you must obtain a visa to enter the destination country. Other countries only require a passport that is valid for at least 6 months!
Make sure you’re up to date on covid travel restrctions as well. Many countries require a negative covid test within 48-72 hours of entry. Others require quarantining and some may even require you to be fully vaccinated. We are living in a new world with many more restrictions on travels so it’s important to stay up to date!
School Yoga Institute provides students with a spiritually driven course that goes far beyond Asana (the physical postures of yoga). Through ceremonies and sacred reflection, we connect to the shadows of our past and rewrite personal narratives that keep us stuck. This process of shedding the old, and giving way to the new, can bring up a lot of emotions.
While your facilitators will be there to support you through this journey, it is also suggested that participants have their own support and therapeutic modalities in place while going through this intensive training. There is an old saying that goes something like this: “You have to feel it to heal It. The only way out is through.”
Our trainings are an opportunity to not only become a Yoga Alliance certified yoga teacher, but to also practice deep self study, heartfelt connection to others, and radical vulnerability. It is important to prepare yourself emotionally for the journey and to remember that this is a professional Yoga Teacher Training, not an intensive therapy program.
Wherever you are on your journey as a yoga teacher, we're here to help! If we can support you in any way please contact us!
