My experience as an Online Yoga Teacher Training Student
My YTT journey has been a rewarding one – full of trials and tribulation. Despite the tragedy and hardship that I endured this summer, completing my Yoga Teacher Training has given me a sense of comfort and peace. I completed my training online with Mindi and Nadine as my instructors.
Engaging with my classmates and being consistent with my studies and practice has given me true insight on life and the current space I am in now. This has been a transformative experience and words cannot express the gratitude that I have for the School Yoga Institute for awarding me a scholarship to experience this life changing online yoga teacher training.
I did a lot of research to determine which yoga school would be the best for me to receive my yoga teacher training. I wanted to be a part of a yoga school that values diversity, inclusivity, and equity. I wanted to be a part of a school that actively implemented their teachings into the lives of the instructors and students. From my research, I felt the warmth and love from the reviews and the SYI website. I learned that SYI was offering yoga scholarships to individuals who belong to marginalized and/or under-represented communities, so I decided to apply for a scholarship. I am a Black, queer woman that advocates for communities that are under-represented and oppressed. As a full-time librarian, I strive to create safe spaces, opportunities, and resources for the community.
As a librarian and a yoga teacher, I want to make physical and spiritual wellness accessible to all. Since completing my YTT, I have started planning free monthly yoga classes at the library I work at. I have collaborated with other local libraries to provide these services to my patrons. To my friends and family who have always been interested in yoga, but afraid to try – I have created a safe space for them to practice and learn about the benefits of yoga. With my 200 hour certification, I am looking to implement yoga into my career as a librarian. I want to continue providing a safe space for people who look like me and the people I serve to practice yoga.
I aspire to serve and connect. As a yogi, librarian, and advocate, I serve and connect with my community everyday. I am truly grateful for SYI gifting me with a scholarship and the opportunity to learn how to teach yoga. I have gained the courage and confidence to start my yoga teaching at my library and community, creating that safe space to serve and connect.
