Yoga Testimonial – Juan. Our Guatemala Yoga Teacher Training Alumni
Yoga teacher training: A few years ago, I made the decision to move to another country! I settled in Mexico to study a master’s degree in digital marketing (I’m originally from Colombia). Within a few days of arriving, I was fortunate to land a great job in an important digital marketing agency.
I was happy, unbeatable, and proud of my achievements. But with that emotion, as time passed, responsibilities, tasks, work trips began to arrive; and my time was getting shorter and shorter. And along with my time, my energy and happiness were overcome by exhaustion and stress. I was exhausted. The little time that I had left was dedicated to sleeping.
I got to a point where I felt my body beginning to collapse, both physically and emotionally. I started going to the gym which helped me gain energy, but my emotional exhaustion was still there. Right in front of the gym was a small Yoga studio. I saw it a couple of times but I was not really interested in going in, I had always seen yoga as something that only strange people practice.
One day, I went to the gym and it was closed. I don’t know what happened to me (maybe curiosity got the better of me) but I decided to enter the Yoga studio and take a class. It was weird, different, awkward… but also so interesting. Yoga was not what I thought. It required concentration and that I connected my mind with the body to achieve the positions and feel the real effect of the class. I was definitely not ready for that. I decided to give it a try and signed up for a month. I was impulsive and paid because if I didn’t, I was sure not going to come back.
What can I tell you? Years later, I am completely convinced of the benefits of this practice! I have taken two 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training, and I co-created a wonderful Yoga studio in Quito, Ecuador.
But also, I continue working in digital marketing, I have the same pressure and stress as before, but I now understand how to balance things. How to breathe in moments of tension, how to calm down when I feel things get complicated; my body has changed; my flexibility has improved, the pain that I had for a long time in my knee disappeared, but above all, my mood and my control of emotions has taken a 360-degree turn.
I do not want to say that now I am a master of this practice. Taking a Yoga Teacher Training is not going to make you an expert but is a very good way to start realizing what it is that you want to do. In my case, I’m not sure if I want to become a yoga instructor (maybe in the future), but I’m 100% sure that a Yoga Teacher Training helped me get to know my body and my mind. I learned how to balance things with a different perspective. This is How Yoga Changed My Life.
So, for anyone who is reading this, let me tell you something, give yourself the opportunity to try new things, break your perceptions and stereotypes and practice yoga (at least a couple times to start); It may, in the end, won’t be the right fit for you (and it is fine if it’s not). Maybe, just maybe, by giving yoga a chance, you may end up discovering a wonderful practice that, like me, will also change your life. And who knows? Maybe you will end up, just like me, doing a Yoga Teacher Training in some beautiful and remote location around the world.
