What’s your favorite yoga pose and why?
Lotus is my favorite pose. It has been my favorite for 50 years. Why? Because I can do it and because of the way I feel while in the pose. It is the quintessential pose for meditating in. The spine is aligned properly and one is very stable. The body just disappears and meditation happens.
What is your favorite quote?
I quote my Dad often. He was a witty southern gentleman. One example is: “I sure am glad I did not die as a baby.” He would say this when he was having a particularly good time.
What inspires you in your practice?
The answer to this question remains a mystery to me. I have been practicing since the late 60’s, and I always look forward to the next class whether I am teaching or practicing. If I hear the word YOGA, I am there. I often wonder why I continue to get so excited about each class. I really do not have the answer.
More About Josephine
Josephine has been practicing yoga for almost 50 years. She has been teaching yoga for over 25 years. She never aspired to teach yoga, but she knew that it was her path forever. One day her teacher said “it is time to teach”. Her response was “but i do not want to teach, I just want to practice”. Her teacher told her repeatedly that she should be teaching. So now that is what she does in New England. When she began to teach she had to be creative with how to spread yoga in her community. She was among a very small group of yogis then. Today of course yoga is like wildfire and everyone is either practicing or wants to give it a try. For Josephine, this is a wonderful thing. She believes that the more people in the world on the yogic path, the better the world will be.
