Welcome to the Mystical land of Lake Atitltan for our Guatemala YTT!

Welcome to Lake Atitlan, a stunning destination embraced by towering volcanoes and rich Mayan culture. Known as one of the most beautiful lakes in the world, its peaceful and tranquil environment makes it the perfect spot to immerse yourself in yoga and spiritual connection. This lake has become a popular destination for yogis because of its tranquil and calm environment.

At The Mystical Yoga Farm, located near Santiago Atitlan, you’ll find an off-grid, self-sustainable sanctuary dedicated to healing, transformation, and empowerment. As one of the first yoga teacher training schools in the region, we combine spiritual wisdom with the beauty of nature, offering a unique experience that goes far beyond certification.

Our Yoga Teacher Training program is inspired by the Peruvian Medicine Wheel, providing a spiritually enriched path to becoming a recognized Yoga Alliance certified teacher. Here, you’ll not only deepen your yoga practice but also tap into the ancient wisdom of Lake Atitlan and its surrounding Mayan culture.

We carefully select the locations for our teacher training programs because the environment is crucial in enhancing your overall experience. Our commitment to sustainability and eco-conscious practices guides our choice of venues. In Guatemala, we partner with a retreat center that aligns with our values and works harmoniously with the land to protect and preserve our precious planet.

Daily yoga and meditation will connect you with your body, mind, and spirit, while cultural excursions and interactions with local Mayan communities will deepen your appreciation for their ancient traditions. Our training promotes conscious living and offers a holistic, life-changing experience both on and off the mat.

Whether you are looking to advance your yoga practice, become a teacher, or simply rejuvenate in a serene, transformative environment, our Guatemala Yoga Teacher Training is your gateway to personal growth, healing, and spiritual awakening.

What I did not expect was that this journey would become one of the most profound experiences of self-discovery, healing, and transformation in my entire life. My 200 hours with School Yoga Institute have highly exceeded my expectations. It offered me the technical skills needed to be a yoga teacher, but also the tools to understand myself deeply, reconnect with my values, and envision the type of life I want to lead.

As my yoga teacher training with SYI and at the Mystical Yoga Farm comes to a close, I find myself feeling still, soft, and deeply grateful. The past few weeks feel like a wormhole in time—simultaneously expansive and fleeting. Days stretched long with emotional depth, philosophical inquiry, playful movement, ritual, song, and a sweetness of intimacy that I had not realized I was longing for.

The experience was just as transformative. By the end of the training, I realized that the most valuable thing I gained was not just a certification, but a shift in how I relate to myself and the world. The teachings reminded me that yoga is not separate from daily life, but something that informs how we move, consume, and connect. This experience continues to shape how I practice, teach, and live.

The most transformative lesson that I am taking away from this training, is that yoga is so much more than asana. There are 8 limbs of yoga and asana is just one of them. I am living yoga off my mat. My deepest gratitude extends to SYI and MYF for holding space for such a beautiful experience of personal transformation and growth.

WHY CHOOSE GUATEMALA FOR YOUR 200-HOUR YTT

Our Guatemala Yoga Teacher Training is designed to harness the unique energy that emerges when like-minded souls gather from around the world in the sacred lands of Guatemala. This training integrates the ancient wisdom of the East with the powerful Peruvian Medicine Wheel, guiding students through a transformative journey of personal growth.

This Yoga Teacher Training is structured in four cycles, each aligned with the four cardinal directions, allowing participants to connect deeply with the guardian spirits of the land. These cycles guide students through phases of release, understanding, growth, and empowerment, fostering a space where inner wisdom is revealed, and life purpose is accelerated.

Our 200-Hour Guatemala Yoga Teacher Training  invites students to dive deep into mystical practices, fostering a connection between themselves and the world around them. Over 21 days, you’ll explore an in-depth introduction to Yoga Philosophy and the Sutras, Anatomy, the Art of Teaching, the Art of Alignment, and the Art of Touch. The training empowers future yoga teachers, guiding them to rediscover themselves and share the wisdom of ancient spiritual traditions. Through the study of ancient wisdom and daily practice, participants cultivate a deeper sense of beauty, love, and freedom, using yoga as a tool to experience the pure essence of life.

Set in the stunning landscapes of Guatemala, surrounded by indigenous Mayan communities, this experience offers cultural immersion alongside yoga practice. Participants can explore local traditions, visit vibrant markets, and hike volcanoes, all while learning the true essence of life through yoga. The beauty, culture, and history of Guatemala, including UNESCO sites like Tikal and Antigua, make it the perfect backdrop for personal growth, reflection, and transformation.

Our training blends yoga’s ancient wisdom with the vibrant energy of Guatemala, offering a soul-nourishing journey that connects participants to nature, culture, and their inner selves.

Our school is deeply influenced by Peruvian Medicine Wheel. This is a significant reason why many say that SYI is much more than just a yoga teacher training. We provide students with a spiritually driven course that goes far beyond Asana (the physical postures of yoga). Through The Peruvian medicine wheel and ceremonies, we connect to the shadows of our past to understand how our patterns shape and feed our current state and perspective. We develop powerful inner tools and rewrite the personal narratives that keep us stuck, giving way to a new perspective and lasting change in our lives.

School Yoga Institute started over 20 years ago and has contributed to hundreds of lives being transformed along the way! As a spiritually focused organization, we are built upon a foundation of love, radical self-acceptance, personal growth, and deep connection. Our Alumni family is vast and continues to blossom throughout the world. Once you complete an SYI course, you’re family for life! We feel honored to do this work and continue to be inspired by each student and the uniqueness of their story.

We recognize that yoga should be accessible to every body! Wherever there is inequality, there is work to do. We offer yoga scholarships for all our yoga teacher training programs and SYI is committed to amplifying and empowering the voices of people of color and folks who identify as BIPOC, LBGTQIA+, and members of marginalized communities.

As an organization, we are very selective about the sacred locations we choose to host our YTTs. We are grateful and humbled to hold these courses around the world on many different continents. We want the people who have grown up in these communities to have a chance to experience our programs at a discounted rate, so we offer 50% off for anyone who is from each location. For example, if you are from Central America, you have access to our programs in Guatemala and Costa Rica at a 50% tuition discount!

We truly can’t say enough about our incredible yoga facilitators. Like our course offerings, our facilitators are located all around the globe! Each one of our diverse world-class facilitators has completed 500-hour YTT and offers a plethora of experience and wisdom. We wouldn’t be who we are without them!

We love our team and we love what we do! If you have ever sent us an e-mail, requested a phone call, or reached out with questions, chances are you’ve heard back from our co-owner and operator, Keri Pennell!

Keri, and Co-Owner and facilitator Jed, pour their hearts and souls into this community and deeply care for each student’s journey and experiences. We call Keri our Mystical Mama! A vegan chef, wife, and mother of four, Keri’s leadership is contagious and welcoming! She’s joined by an incredibly supportive team of SYI visionaries!

At School Yoga Institute we are grateful to work with numerous international locations as passionate about sustainability as us. In our travels we make an effort to off-set emissions, during our yoga teacher training we provide students with the knowledge, means and opportunity to delve into self inquiry of the impact of their current lifestyle and an introduction to living more sustainably.
