Rachel Moore – Guatemala 2019

Rachel Moore's review of her 200 hour yoga teacher training at the mystical yoga farm in Guatemala.

Growing at the Mystical Yoga Farm

I completed my first 200 Hour yoga teacher training a couple of years ago in British Columbia. This year I decided I would do another with School Yoga Institute. I wanted to refresh my skills and become yoga alliance certified. This December I had the pleasure of attending the Mystical Yoga Farm in Guatemala for their 200 hour training. What I received from this training was much more than some refreshing and a certificate.

Since my first training in British Columbia I had been teaching on and off in various locations and focusing on my asana practice, but there is so much more to yoga. I hadn’t really thought of the spiritual aspect of it and wanted more depth to my practice and my teaching. I decided on the Mystical Yoga Farm because I wanted to have a complete immersion in the yogic lifestyle, and I did. The moment I stepped off the boat and onto the dock I knew I came to the right place. Any worries that I had before arriving disappeared as I was captivated by this little piece of paradise on lake Atitlan that is, the Mystical Yoga Farm. I could not wait to get the training started.

My first night I was already stepping out of my comfort zone singing and chanting around the fire circle. I could tell from my teachers and others who work on the faveals an understanding of one another that respects the individual process. Through times of difference or discomfort, we must learn to both offer and hold space for each other; allowing ourselves to see clearer into the souls of one another while using each other’s reflections as ways to plunge deeper within our own being. Embracing integration of characteristics that differ from our own is what ignites the healing process within mankind. And this is exactly what SYI provided for us during our training – guidance and opportunity to unite our differences to generate a greater ability than one man holds alone.

Everyone has a story and some are harder to share than others, being vulnerable isn’t easy, but it can be liberating. During the 200 hour training at the Mystical Yoga Farm, such a safe space was created within our community that I felt comfortable being vulnerable. I shared stories with people I just met that I haven’t shared with people that I’ve known for years, and it felt great. Just expressing things out loud alone I think helped a lot of individuals including myself, let go of what no longer served them. I felt so privileged when listening to others’ stories. Knowing that I helped create a safe space for them to express themselves inspired me. I wish to create that space in all of my classes. I want all of my students to allow themselves to release what no longer serves them, and know who they are, is enough.

The Mystical Yoga Farm is a truly magical place. Nestled on the beautiful lake Atitlan, the environment gives you the opportunity to really indulge in everything the training has to offer. How can you not feel at peace when you’re in Abuela practicing yoga with the view of the lake and volcanoes in the distance? Listening and feeling the sounds from the trees, the birds the wind chimes, you escape to another world. A world full of joy, discovery and growth.

My training with School Yoga Institute has transformed me into a better version of myself and I only wish to continue the transformation. I have more confidence than ever as a yoga teacher and feel that I have so much more to bring to my classes now than just the physical practice. Yoga has changed my life and I want to use it to help others. I want students to leave my classes feeling accomplished, motivated and inspired. The way I felt when I completed my 200 hour yoga teacher training at the Mystical Yoga Farm.
