Ece | Bali 300hr YTT Testimonial
I recently completed my 300-hour yoga teacher training in Bali in January 2025. This experience was incredibly profound and transformative, marking a significant milestone in both my personal and professional journey. I initially signed up for this course with the intention of deepening my practice and refining my teaching style after a decade of teaching yoga. Having completed my 200-hour training with School Yoga Institute (SYI) in Nicaragua years ago—a memory that remains one of the most cherished experiences of my life—I knew returning to SYI for my advanced training would be the right decision.
However, the path leading up to this program was anything but smooth. In January 2024, my life was turned upside down when I was diagnosed with cancer. Following my diagnosis, I underwent a mastectomy, a physically and emotionally demanding experience. After surgery, I was advised to undergo chemotherapy and hormone treatments, but after deep contemplation, I gracefully declined those recommendations. Instead, I embarked on a journey of self-discovery and healing, exploring alternative ways to reclaim my health. It was during this introspective period that I saw the invitation for the 300-hour training in Bali—a destination that had been calling me for the past five years. The decision to enroll felt like an act of self-honor, a commitment to living fully and embracing life on my own terms. In my eagerness to immerse myself in the experience, I didn’t even pay attention to the specific focus of the training. It was only after I registered that I realized it was a Tantra teacher training. At that moment, I surrendered to the belief that this was exactly what I needed to heal and grow.
The training turned out to be everything I had hoped for and more. It was comprehensive, engaging, and deeply transformative. Our teachers, Flavia and Kristalyn, brought an incredible depth of knowledge while making the teachings digestible and accessible for all. Their love, generosity, and dedication to the practice were evident in every aspect of the training. They surprised us with unexpected gifts, challenged us to expand our perspectives, and guided us with authenticity and compassion. Their presence created a sacred space where we could truly immerse ourselves in the experience and receive the wisdom being offered.
Looking back, I am immensely grateful for choosing this program. It provided me with exactly what I needed—not only to deepen my spiritual connection with the divine after such a tumultuous year but also to help me integrate my new reality and move forward with clarity and purpose. The teachings resonated deeply, giving me the tools to embrace my personal journey with more awareness, acceptance, and empowerment.
During the training, we focused extensively on Prana, the life force energy, and the five Vayus, or movements of energy within the body. We explored these concepts through the lens of Non-Dual Tantra and various tantric philosophies. Instead of being confined to a single lineage, we received an overview of different paths, allowing us to explore and integrate them in ways that aligned with our individual journeys. This approach was incredibly liberating, as it provided a holistic perspective rather than a rigid structure.
Tantra, as we learned, is a path to empowerment, compassion, and unity. Working with the Vayus individually allowed me to witness myself with greater clarity, reflecting on the patterns that led up to my diagnosis and understanding how to work with my energy more intentionally moving forward. The training gave me the tools to heal, evolve, and approach life with a renewed sense of presence and purpose.
Beyond Tantra, we delved into other enriching teachings, including Buddhism, Yoga Nidra, and Neo-Shamanism. Each of these traditions provided insights that complemented and deepened my understanding of yoga and spirituality. Yoga Nidra, in particular, stood out to me as a practice that could greatly support my healing journey, helping me cultivate stillness and deep rest—something I have often struggled to prioritize.

As I integrate these teachings into my life, I have committed to incorporating several key practices:
Weekly Yoga Nidra Practice– Rest has never been my strong suit, but I recognize how essential it is for healing and overall well-being. Establishing a regular Yoga Nidra practice will support my recovery and personal growth. Additionally, I plan to offer this practice at the retreat center where I work, sharing its benefits with others in my community.
Mantra and Embodiment Practices– These practices will help deepen my spiritual connection and challenge me to step out of my comfort zone. Chanting mantras has already begun to shift my inner landscape, creating a sense of devotion and vibrational healing that I find both powerful and soothing.
Honoring Nature Through Ceremony– This is perhaps what excites me the most. Having recently built my home in a beautiful, wild forest, I have been nurturing an ever-growing connection with the natural world. Incorporating ceremonies and rituals to honor nature feels like a natural extension of my journey. Whether through offerings, meditative walks, or seasonal celebrations, I look forward to strengthening this relationship and fostering a deeper sense of belonging within my environment.
My time in Bali was nothing short of magical. The energy of the land, the richness of Balinese culture, and the warmth of the people created an environment that was both nourishing and inspiring. Our accommodation was beautifully integrated with nature, making it the perfect setting for deep transformation. The daily rhythms of the training, interwoven with the sights, sounds, and scents of Bali, made each moment feel sacred. On our days off, we explored different parts of the island, bonding with fellow students and creating memories that I will carry with me forever.
As I reflect on this journey, my heart overflows with gratitude. I am grateful for the challenges that led me here, for the wisdom that was shared, and for the friendships that blossomed along the way. SYI has once again provided an experience that was not just about learning but about truly living the teachings. They have a way of creating spaces that invite deep transformation, meaningful connection, and profound self-discovery.
I wholeheartedly recommend SYI to anyone seeking a training that goes beyond just technique and philosophy—it is an invitation to step into a more authentic, embodied, and empowered version of yourself. Whether you are looking to deepen your practice, refine your teaching, or embark on a path of personal growth, their programs offer a unique blend of depth, wisdom, and heartfelt community.
As I return home, I carry with me a renewed sense of purpose and an unwavering commitment to continue this path of self-inquiry, healing, and service. This training was not just about becoming a better teacher—it was about becoming a fuller, more present, and more connected human being. And for that, I am eternally grateful.
