Jennifer | Peru 300hr YTT Testimonial
When I signed up for my 300-hour yoga teacher training in Peru with School Yoga Institute, I truly had no idea what to expect. I came with an open heart and a deep desire to grow, to refine my teaching skills, to learn more about the sacred science of Ayurveda, and to strengthen my personal practice. What unfolded during my time here went far beyond anything I could have imagined.
Of course, I deepened my understanding of yoga, philosophy, and Ayurveda. I gained practical tools and confidence in my teaching. But more than anything, this experience cracked me open. It transformed how I see myself, how I move through the world, and how I share this practice with others. I could never have predicted the depth of healing, connection, and remembrance that would take place here.
From the very moment I arrived in Peru, I felt the land’s power. There is something indescribably sacred about the Andes, a vibration that hums through the mountains, the rivers, and the air itself. The land listens, and it speaks if you are quiet enough to hear. I felt immediately that this was not just a place to learn yoga, but a place to be transformed by the elements themselves.
Munay Sonqo, the retreat center where we stayed, is one of the most beautiful and heart-centered places I’ve ever experienced. It feels alive — not only because of the breathtaking mountains and lush gardens but because of the people who care for it. The staff at Munay Sonqo were so kind and attentive; they brought warmth and love into every detail, from the meals to the space to the way they greeted us each morning. Every day felt like being held — supported by both the land and the people who nurture it.
And then, there were our teachers, Anita and Raquel. I don’t even know where to begin with them. They are two of the most inspiring, heart-led, and wise women I’ve ever met. To be guided by them was a gift beyond measure. I have never felt so seen, respected, and supported by teachers before. They embody what they teach, living examples of yoga in action, both on and off the mat. Anita and Raquel have such a beautiful balance between them — their energy, their humor, their wisdom, and their deep compassion for each student. Their teachings went far beyond alignment and anatomy. They taught from the heart, weaving philosophy, storytelling, movement, and self-inquiry into every lesson. They reminded us that yoga is not about performance or perfection; it’s about presence, surrender, and devotion. What touched me most was how human they are — humble, curious, and always learning. Despite their incredible depth of knowledge, they remain students of life, which inspired me to continue approaching this practice with the same reverence and openness. Through them, I learned what it truly means to hold space — not to fix or change others, but to witness, to guide, and to love unconditionally. This training was as much about unlearning as it was about learning. I let go of layers of expectation and self-judgment. I began to see my practice — and my teaching — as a form of service rather than performance. I discovered a deeper sense of trust in myself, in my intuition, and in the wisdom that flows through when I allow space for stillness. One of the most profound aspects of this experience was the study of Ayurveda. It opened my eyes to the natural cycles that govern both the body and the Earth — how intimately our inner and outer worlds are connected. Learning to honor those rhythms has changed the way I move, eat, rest, and teach. Ayurveda reminded me that balance is not static; it’s a dance of awareness and adjustment, moment by moment. Looking back now, I see that this journey was not just a training — it was a homecoming. A return to something ancient and true within myself. I left Peru with new skills, yes, but more importantly, I left with a renewed sense of purpose and peace. I now carry this practice into my teaching with a fuller heart — guiding my students not just to move their bodies, but to listen deeply to what their bodies are asking for. I hope to create spaces where others can feel as held and seen as I felt here — places of honesty, softness, and empowerment. To anyone considering studying with School Yoga Institute, I cannot recommend it enough. It’s not simply a certification program; it’s a journey inward, a community of kindred spirits, and a lifelong transformation. This training reminded me why I fell in love with yoga in the first place — because it is a path back home to the self. I am endlessly grateful to the teachers, the community, and the sacred land of Peru for everything they offered. This experience will forever be a part of me — a reminder that when you show up with an open heart, life meets you with infinite wisdom.
