Alexia | Peru 200hr YTT Testimonial
For the past few years, I had been contemplating the idea of completing my first 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training (YTT). Little did I know that I would complete it this year, here in Peru.
Words can hardly capture or fully reflect the depth of the experience lived in the Sacred Valley. This YTT was a fully immersive journey, made possible by the sacred geographical setting, the knowledge shared, and the energy exchanged among the people in my cohort.
What made these three weeks truly exceptional and beyond all expectations was the place itself, Raices Inkas, and its staff. It was also the outstanding expertise of our two teachers and their many theoretical and practical teachings. The human connections, the moments of pushing beyond my personal limits, and the reflections initiated will stay with me for a long time.
I cannot speak of my experience without mentioning the retreat center where we spent our days: Raices Inkas. The space carries a strong spiritual energy. The mountains, and their spirits the Apus, surround us. The garden is filled with colorful flowers, and every detail is thoughtfully designed and cared for. The fresh, anti-inflammatory meals helped us feel nourished and revitalized, each dish presented with care and elegance. The rooms were incredibly comfortable, a true haven to rest and recharge after long days. And the staff, attentive, warm, thoughtful and always smiling, created an environment where we could fully disconnect and focus on our learning.
The expertise of our teachers, Krystalin and Kris, was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the training. Their knowledge is deeply grounded, and the concepts they introduced were made accessible while still sparking our curiosity. They encouraged us to reflect and develop our critical thinking, always with openness and care. Beyond the knowledge they shared, they created a truly safe space within the group, where everyone felt free to express themselves, whether by asking questions, sharing reflections, voicing doubts, or simply being present with what arose in the moment. This supportive atmosphere allowed for rich and authentic exchanges, where every voice mattered. It greatly contributed to the depth of the learning and the human quality of the experience.
The teachings are deeply rooted in Andean beliefs and traditions, where Pachamama, Mother Earth, holds a central place. The program also integrates yoga teachings and healing practices inspired by the Peruvian shamanic medicine wheel. The learning unfolds through four cycles, each carrying its own teachings and approaches. The Serpent invites acceptance of what is. The Jaguar explores the perception of the mind and emotions. The Hummingbird opens awareness to the soul, beyond body and mind. Finally, the Eagle guides us toward the perception of spirit as pure energy. A closing ceremony marks the end of each cycle, allowing us to integrate what we have learned and prepare for what comes next. Afternoons were dedicated to hands-on work with asanas. We broke down the flows practiced in the morning and analyzed each posture to find the right words to teach them. Practicing in pairs created a dynamic and simple learning environment.
This experience would not have been the same without the incredible souls with whom I shared these 21 days. Coming into this training, I knew I would meet people with whom I would naturally connect. However, the depth and closeness of the relationships we built far exceeded my expectations. We came together in a space of openness, kindness, and authenticity, where everyone had the freedom to be fully themselves. Our days were filled with deep, meaningful conversations, as well as frequent and spontaneous laughter. There was always genuine listening, without judgment, and a true openness to others. I constantly felt seen, heard, and appreciated simply for who I am. I truly believe I have created meaningful connections that will continue to exist beyond time and distance.
Throughout the training, I was faced with situations that pushed me out of my comfort zone. At different moments, I felt myself expanding my limits, both physically and emotionally. Even when these experiences were challenging or uncomfortable, I chose to stay present and move through them fully. I knew I was evolving in a deeply supportive and safe environment, which allowed me to open up with greater trust. Each moment of discomfort became an opportunity for growth and learning. By moving through these experiences with softness and curiosity, I developed a deeper understanding of myself, my reactions and my capacity to adapt. It also strengthened my resilience and my ability to embrace the unknown.
The learnings gained, the exchanges shared, and the reflections initiated are like seeds that have been planted, ready to be nurtured and slowly grow. With time, patience, and care, they will take root and, perhaps in a few years, be ready to be harvested. This image reminds me that any process of transformation requires gentleness and consistency. I leave this training with a rich and diverse foundation, filled with knowledge, experiences, and meaningful human connections. And yet, I feel that I have only touched the tip of the iceberg and that is precisely what makes it so exciting…knowing there is still so much to explore, understand, and integrate into my journey!
With Yoga School Institute, this was not just a YTT I completed, but a much broader and more profound experience. These weeks allowed me to deepen both my personal knowledge and my practice, while forming meaningful human connections. They also awakened a renewed curiosity within me, a sense that a door has opened, inviting me to explore this path even further. More than a training, this YTT offered me a new way of approaching life. ✨
