My experience as a Peru Yoga Teacher Training Student

 

 

Like many of my peers, I chose SYI during a time of great transition when I knew I needed to get in touch with my inner compass. I was anticipating an opportunity to find myself again after becoming lost in my career, but I found so much more. It was as if all my senses were re-ignited, to a place where I can now view the world in a new light. I was offered the space to listen with my heart, speak with my truest voice and feel with my authentic soul. In tandem with this I connected with my body again through daily practice and finding my breath for the first time. By way of this opening, I was able to see deeply into myself and more clearly for my future.

I was one of those people who saw Yoga as a way of exercise and not much more. I arrived with an open-mind and allowed myself to surrender to the process. This is something I am continuing to place my trust into now that I have returned home – it is no easy feat. SYI has given me the tools to navigate my thoughts and emotions from a place of love. I learned a great deal about the history of the Yoga Sutras and how they relate to my life today, changing my relationship with Yoga forever. Zach, Brooke and Carli were an absolute dream team as teachers, mentors and space holders. Not only were they loving and kind but very thorough in their teaching with clear and concise methods. It is obvious that they are so amazing at what they do because it is their passion. They also went above and beyond to make the most out of the students’ experiences with special guests and ceremonies

 

 

The Sacred Valley location in Peru far exceeded anyone’s expectations – truly a dream come true. The location was beyond anything I could have imagined as far as beauty. The site was thriving with life and palpable spirituality. I have never felt as protected by Pacha Mama as I did living in that Valley, surrounded by mountains, which in turn gave me a beautiful reconnection with nature. The community of my peers only enhanced the appreciation as we transformed from strangers to family in a matter of hours, sharing experiences, growth, laughter and tears. This cannot go without thanks to the staff of Munay Sonqo, who made us feel like family the moment we arrived. They blessed us with delicious food, warm smiles and various accommodations every day.

 

 

All in all, I cannot recommend the SYI Sacred Valley program enough. The country of Peru was astonishing in every aspect, inside the retreat and out. I attended the November training, which is Spring time in Peru – what a treat coming from Canada! The people of Peru were kind and welcoming in every encounter I had, but I would try each location if I was given the opportunity. The SYI team was accessible and supportive every step of the way. From my initial contact to travel plans, I felt taken care through the entirety of the experience and would undoubtedly choose them again should I take a 300hr or otherwise. I will carry everything I learned during my training close to my heart and am eternally grateful for the experience it has provided.
