MEET ASHLEY D.

Yoga Teacher, surfer & blogger

Ashley Davis, also known as Bad Ash from her days as a radio personality, is a dedicated yoga practitioner who has taught numerous retreats and workshops around the world, sharing her passion and knowledge with others. She is also a passionate surfer and outdoors enthusiast, who resides on the beautiful island of Maui in Hawaii with her wonderful husband, Jonathan.

When she's not teaching or practicing yoga, Ashley is a co-owner of several popular restaurants on the island, which specialize in fresh, locally-sourced cuisine. Additionally, Ashley is a skilled marketing consultant, helping other businesses to promote their brands and reach new audiences. Her philosophy is guided by the Hawaiian principle of "aloha," which translates to love, compassion, and kindness towards oneself and others. Through all of her endeavors, Ashley stays true to this philosophy, spreading positivity and kindness in everything she does. In her free time, Ashley can often be found hiking, diving, or surfing, staying connected to nature and the beautiful surroundings of her island home.

Ashley's classes are a blend of various yoga styles, incorporating influences from Hatha, Sivananda, Ashtanga, Iyengar, Vinyasa, and more. She is inspired by yoga's transformative power, which impacts the mind, body, and soul. Ashley believes that this power should be nurtured and respected. Her classes focus on developing body awareness, steady breath, and proper alignment, while infusing a playful and loving energy. In addition to teaching yoga, Ashley is devoted to sharing her practice and continually growing as a yogi.

What is your favorite yoga pose?

During my practice, I usually find myself drawn to the pose that I need the most, but my personal favorite is Paschimottanasana because it simply feels amazing. This posture allows me to experience a deep sense of release, surrender, and energy flow. Apart from its ability to stretch the hamstrings, shoulders, and spine, Paschimottanasana has numerous other benefits as well. It has a calming effect on the mind, which is something that I always appreciate. Additionally, it improves digestion, reduces fatigue, and stimulates the feminine divine, kidneys, and liver. The list of its benefits goes on, and I find it to be an excellent all-around pose.

What is your favorite quote?

As someone who loves quotes, I have many favorites, but at the moment, I'm particularly drawn to “If your compassion does not include yourself, it is incomplete.” — Jack Kornfield. This quote reminds me that self-care and self-compassion are just as important as kindness towards others. On a personal level, the quote that resonates with me the most and which I try to live by is "No hurry, no worry." This phrase reminds me to slow down, stay calm, and enjoy the present moment, rather than getting caught up in stress and anxiety about the future.

What inspires you in your practice?

The energy of bodily movement, the uniqueness of each body, and the opportunity to experiment with movement all inspire me. By exploring movement on a physical level, we can gradually uncover the various layers of our being, enabling us to delve deeper into our existence. Working with both novice and seasoned practitioners provides me with constant inspiration as the path of learning is endless, and we all have much to share with one another on our journey towards self-discovery.

STUDENT TESTIMONIAL

Ashley is very good at holding space for people when needed. She is energetic and so friendly, she had a big sister vibe that I couldn’t imagine the YTT without! I had a hip injury and she continuously checked in with me and offered help and rest when needed. I felt very grateful to have her as my instructor! I loved her laugh, her knowledge of alignment, and, her passion for yoga.
