SYI FACILITATORS:

MEET ASHLEY D.

Yoga Teacher, surfer & blogger

World-traveling yogi, Ashley Davis (“Bad Ash”) tours the globe teaching yoga classes, hosting workshops, retreats, and teacher trainings, while experiencing the cuisine, music and mindsets of a myriad cultures.

She has been dedicated to her yoga practice for nearly two decades on and off the mat, embodying the yoga lifestyle beyond asana. Ashley is also a surfer, surf instructor, voice-over artist, slackliner, and blogger. Ashley feels lucky to incorporate all her passions and life experience through yoga with practice, hard work, determination, and a positive attitude. She believes the journey is as forever the student, learning from the people she has the privilege to teach, with an open heart and open mind.

Her classes combine what feels good in the body and all influences she’s encountered: Hatha, Sivananda, Ashtanga, Iyengar, Vinyasa, etc. Yoga’s transformative power inspires Ashley through mind, body and soul; she believes it should be nurtured. Focusing on body awareness and a steady connection to breath and alignment, she brings fun and loving energy to her classes and guided meditations. Ashley is devoted to sharing and growing in her yoga practice, living life to the fullest and laughing as much as possible.

She also enjoys acro yoga, hiking, and skydiving. As a former radio personality, where she earned her nickname “Bad Ash,” Ashley brings eclectic music tastes for her energetic classes.

What is your favorite yoga pose?

Paschimottanasana – Seated Forward Fold

The biggest reason I like paschimottanasana is that it just feels good… I connect with the release, the energy flow, the surrendering… Like many asanas, this pose has so many beautiful benefits from not just stretching the hamstrings but for the shoulders and the spine. It calms the brain, which I feel like I always need. 🙂 It improves digestion, reduces fatigue, and stimulates our feminine divine, along with our kidneys and liver… the list goes on… it’s just darn good.

What is your favorite quote?

Quote fanatic here & I love so many… currently, I am pondering… “If your compassion does not include yourself, it is incomplete.” — Jack Kornfield

Quote that I live by… “No hurry, no worry.”

What inspires you in your practice?

I am inspired by the energetics of movement in the body, the individuality of all our bodies, and the ability to explore movement in your body. Through this exploration on the physical level, we begin to peel back the layers of our being and we’re able to dive deeper into our existence. When working with new and experienced practitioners I am inspired by them… the journey of knowledge is never-ending… and we can offer so much to each other to delve deeper into the journey to the self.

STUDENT TESTIMONIAL

“Ashley is an amazing personality. She is so passionate about yoga that you just feel it. I also felt safe discussing personal issues with her outside of the class"
