MEET EMILY
Emily Gilligan is a 500 RYT, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Therapist, and Yoga Teacher Trainer.

Emily’s journey with yoga began in 2012 after being exposed to a local studio from teaching group fitness cycling classes and a personal desire to bring balance to her physical activities. After several years of engaging in a vigorous personal practice at hot studios, Emily experienced a debilitating car accident in 2019 which left her with an inability to practice the asanas and movement aspect of yoga, but this did open her to the healing pathway of yoga through other limbs of yoga like pranayama and meditation. Restorative yoga was the only form of activity that helped her heal the body, mind, and spirit. From this experience, Emily developed the belief that we all have the ability to heal ourselves and yoga is a powerful transformational tool in the healing process.
In 2021, Emily embarked on a yoga journey with a 200-hour YTT with SYI in Peru and also a 200-YTT with Healing House in Peru in the styles of hatha, vinyasa, and restorative. She also completed a 3-month apprenticeship with Pachananda Retreat Center in Cusco, teaching yoga and supporting residential yoga training retreats. Emily has taught students in studios and privately in the US 2022-present.
Emily strongly believes in following the intuition of each individual’s body and cultivating mindful presence to connect to the highest version of ourselves which allows us to be receptive to the messages of our hearts. Her classes are trauma-informed and include unique flows with alignment options for everyone’s abilities. Her continued passion for health and wellness, accessibility, and empowerment which started early in her social work education contribute to her ability to meet students where they are at, enthusiastically support growth, and inspire others to follow their hearts.
She currently resides on Whidbey Island in Washington state and works full time as a clinical therapist while teaching yoga on the weekends. Besides teaching yoga and practicing as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker she enjoys spending as much time in nature as possible through hiking, camping, traveling, and also enjoys seeing live music.
