Radhiyah Ayobami is the great-granddaughter of midwives, moonshiners and healers. She believes in the power of ancestral medicine. She is a three time graduate of the Sacred Woman Program with Queen Afua, a guide to holistic nutrition, movement and meditation as a way of being in the world.
Radhiyah earned her 200 hour and 300 hour yoga teacher training certificates in Guatemala and India with the School of Yoga Institute. Currently she facilitates writing, movement and energy healing sessions with diverse populations including children, mothers and seniors online and in schools and community centers across NYC.

What inspires you in your practice?
During the past five years, I released more than 100 pounds. Yoga has been an important part of that journey. When I was heavier, yoga was a way to move my body without harming myself. I also had to think creatively about how to modify the positions to accomodate what my body could do. Yoga has been one of the ways that inspires me to move freely, daily and with joy. My body continues to change in each season of life, and yoga leads me to respond to those changes with sthira sukham asanam- steadiness and ease. What I love most about yoga is the way it flows differently in every situation yet continues to heal. When I lead a session with seniors, we often pause after a pose so they can share brief memories. During a session with children they might need a few minutes to enjoy rolling around on their mats, guided only by what feels good in their bodies. With mothers and women over forty who often have very full lives, the release of tight shoulders or hips sometimes brings tears. My practice continues to expand on my own and with others. Currently, I’m really enjoying yin and restorative yoga, which leaves me feeling renewed and ready to face all the opportunities life has to bring. I’ll always be grateful to yoga for bringing me back to the harmony and balance inside me.
